Building Scalable EdTech Platforms: Lessons from Gamify IAS

By Parth Joshi15 May 20261 min readCase Study

Discover the architectural decisions and design strategies required to build high-concurrency, scalable EdTech platforms that serve thousands of students.

The EdTech Challenge

Building software for education technology (EdTech) presents unique challenges. Platforms must handle intense, concentrated traffic spikes (such as during a live exam) while maintaining absolute data integrity and low latency.

The Gamify IAS Architecture

When we built the infrastructure for Gamify IAS, a premier UPSC coaching institute, we knew a monolithic architecture would fail under pressure.

1. Microservices and Serverless

By decoupling the LMS (Learning Management System) from the Exam Engine, we ensured that a heavy load on video streaming would not affect the real-time latency of test-taking. We heavily utilized serverless functions to infinitely scale exam submissions during peak hours.

2. Real-Time Concurrency

A live exam requires real-time state management. Using WebSockets and optimized Supabase real-time subscriptions, we built an engine that tracks student progress second-by-second without overwhelming the database.

3. AI-Powered Doubts

To scale personalized learning, we integrated an AI Assistant ('ai.gamifyias.in') directly into the platform. This LLM-powered tutor handles 80% of routine student doubts, drastically reducing the operational load on human teachers.

Building EdTech isn't just about writing code; it's about building resilient systems that empower learning at scale.
